Erick “Hiko” Miyagi’s practice areas include civil and appellate litigation, including insurance defense, medical malpractice, products liability, premises liability, class action litigation, construction litigation and commercial litigation. He has extensive experience in the defense of medical malpractice claims against physicians, hospitals, nurses, and other health care providers, including the preparation and presentation of submissions to medical review panels, bench and jury trials, class actions and appeals.  Hiko also provides general legal advice to nurses, hospitals, dialysis clinics, risk management and administration. 

Mr. Miyagi represents and counsels clients in all sectors of the construction industry, including general contractors, subcontractors, owners, manufacturers, and homebuilders.  His practice includes both litigation and transactional work, and he routinely handles construction defect claims, class action claims, breach of contract disputes, mechanic's lien and bond claim issues, contract reviews, and jobsite negligence claims.

Mr. Miyagi also has a wide range of insurance defense experience representing insurance companies and their insureds in automobile, trucking, property, products liability, construction defect, sexual molestation and related claims. 

He received his J.D. from Louisiana State University Law Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1993 where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and where he served two years on Louisiana Law Review. He received a B.A. in Psychology from L.S.U. in 1990. He serves as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Miyagi is a member of the Baton Rouge and Louisiana Bar Associations, Louisiana Association of (Civil) Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and Louisiana Association of Hospital Attorneys. He was selected for inclusion in Louisiana Super Lawyers.
